Why A is correct
Under the agent licensing provisions at TIC 4001.003 and 4001.006, an applicant for a general lines agent license must be at least 18 years old. Texas adds no residency duration and no minimum period of prior insurance experience to that basic age qualification. Practically, an 18-year-old applicant who passes the licensing examination and satisfies the application requirements can be licensed, and an agency should not reject an applicant as too young once the applicant has turned 18.
Why the other options are wrong
- B) Texas does not impose a 2-year residency requirement on an applicant for a general lines license; only the 18-year minimum age applies.
- C) The qualification is 18, not 20; a 20-year figure appears elsewhere in Texas licensing (the 20-year continuing education exemption) but never as an age qualification.
- D) There is no 3-year experience requirement; eligibility rests on age, application and examination rather than on prior employment in the business.
Memory hook
The Texas agent age floor is 18, with nothing extra layered on top.
