Why A is correct
Under New York's Medicare supplement standards, every Medicare supplement policy must be guaranteed renewable, and an issuer may not cancel or nonrenew the policy for any reason other than nonpayment of premium or material misrepresentation. Cancellation or nonrenewal on the ground of the insured's health status is expressly prohibited, so deteriorating health, a serious diagnosis, or heavy claims experience can never end the coverage as long as premiums are paid and the application was truthful.
Why the other options are wrong
- B) Health status is expressly off-limits; an issuer may not cancel or nonrenew because the insured's health has deteriorated.
- C) Claims experience cannot support cancellation or nonrenewal; only nonpayment of premium or material misrepresentation may.
- D) A Medicare supplement policy is not optionally renewable; advance notice cannot convert a prohibited ground into a permissible one.
